Why EMDR?
Why EMDR?
EMDR and Somatic Experiencing®

Many people have events in their past they look back upon, and perhaps try to forget. New or old, these feelings may linger faintly in the background for years, or may be so strong that they haunt us on a daily basis. You may have carried such a burden for years, shared your concerns with friends or family, or otherwise felt you have events in your past you would like to finally address. In each case, it’s perfectly normal to want to question and examine upsetting events that have occurred in your life. It’s also completely normal to feel that these same events, while upsetting, may not rise to the level of "trauma". Regardless of the depth or severity of your issues, past or present, trauma therapy can be enormously beneficial.

The events of the previous year have taken an enormous mental, emotional, and psychological toll on many. Prolonged isolation and hopelessness, along with feelings of fear, anger, and distrust can often resurface painful memories and past wounds that can remain with us for years to come. These feelings can also be a catalyst for change, and an opportunity for self-improvement and growth.

The good news is, trauma can be healed, and the science behind our understanding of how the brain works is greater now than at any point in human history. Of the thousands of clients we have seen over the years, one aspect always remains true; Taking the first step towards recovery can often be the most difficult part of the process. For most individuals, there is a deep sense of relief once they eventually do take that step.

While there are many ways to treat trauma, the two therapies we use most commonly are EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Somatic Experiencing® Therapy. In our experience, these two specific approaches to trauma therapy have yielded the best results for our clients, and have the advantage of being able to be used either separately, or in conjunction with one another.

Typically, our clients visit us in-person at our offices, which are located in Columbia, TN. Depending upon your particular needs and personal schedule, your therapy visits can either be in-person, by phone, or provided remotely using a secure video teleconference.

In every instance, we work together with our clients to find the pace, and setting that they are most comfortable with. With that in mind, I encourage you to contact us, below, to schedule an appointment, so we can further discuss how leading-edge trauma therapy can help you be your best.
Welcome
Welcome. You're In The Right Place.
Located south of Nashville in the heart of scenic downtown Columbia, Tennessee, the Columbia Center for EMDR Therapy specializes in the treatment of individuals with trauma, anxiety, and stress-related disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Phobias, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We also treat adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, victims of narcissistic abuse, and individuals simply seeking to find peace in their lives in the aftermath of life-altering events. Regardless of severity or complexity, the Columbia Center For EMDR Therapy offers you a safe haven to address your issues, and a caring, compassionate environment in which you can heal.
Taking That First Step Is Often The Hardest Part Of The Journey.
It's sometimes difficult to take that first step, as we often take pride in our ability to cope with life's pressures on our own. We also see ourselves as willing, capable, and strong enough to withstand nearly all of life's challenges. However, there's a point where these challenges can become too many in number, last for too long a time, or weigh so heavily upon us that the pressure becomes too great for any one person to bear.

You may mistakenly feel that by seeking help, you are somehow "giving up".
In seeking help, we are not "giving up" on ourselves. We are simply calling for reinforcements in the battle.
You Are Not Alone.
At the Columbia Center for EMDR Therapy, we are ready to partner with you in your struggle, today. Together, we will develop a personalized plan designed with your specific needs in mind; One that utilizes the best combination of available treatments and therapies, backed by the latest research, and delivered to you by an expert in the field in the most customized, most comprehensive, and most efficient manner possible.
Advanced Personalized Therapy, Customized For Your Needs.
In a traditional therapy setting, the problems an individual is faced with are generally addressed over the course of several weeks, sometimes several months. If this is the pace you're comfortable with, then our 50 or 90-minute session format may be a perfect fit for you. For others, particularly those with acute trauma, we offer a groundbreaking treatment method known as an "EMDR Intensive", or "EMDR Retreat", which can successfully compress a large amount of therapy into a much shorter length of time, often in a matter of hours or days. If you have heightened privacy concerns, if you're an artist on the road, or simply feel more comfortable receiving therapy in your own home rather than in person, we also offer state-of-the-art therapy services via a secure high-speed video teleconferencing platform.

No matter what problems you are currently faced with, the Columbia Center For EMDR Therapy is dedicated to delivering the absolute best approach to therapy possible.
